Festivals in Brighton

Each May the city hosts the Brighton Festival, the second largest arts and fringe festival in the UK (after Edinburgh). This includes processions such as the Children's Parade, outdoor spectaculars often involving pyrotechnics and theatre, music and visual arts in venues throughout the city, some brought into use exclusively for the festival.

Other festivals include The Great Escape, featuring live music in venues across Brighton, the Soundwaves Festival, which showcases classical music composed in the 21st Century, Paddle Round the Pier; Brighton Live which stages free gigs in pubs to show local bands; Burning the Clocks, a winter solstice celebration.

Brighton Pride, which brings Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) people together, is the biggest Pride festival in the UK and in recent years has attracted an estimated 150,000 visitors.
