The Gog Shop was part of Cobleys,a Hove based traditional men's outfitters.Gary Cobley, the son, had an enlightened view of things, and hence the Gog Shop, with a Cobleys Children department above, was opened on the Western Road Brighton.Michael took over the running of the place at some early point, and also oversaw the manufacture of high quality trousers at a nearby facility, made to his designs, by a highly competent chap called Stanley.Michael had "the eye",something seized on in the early 70's by a young Paul Smith, they remained life long friends.

Michael pursued his solo interests later, and became a well known and much loved Brighton figure, especially with regard to understated but cutting edge fashion. He was also a talented artist.Once again,"the eye" came into play.Very few people truly have it.Sadly, some people think they do.There are always imitators surrounding these kind of enterprises, the wonderful German term "ersatz" comes to mind.

Subsequent iterations of "The Gog Shop",proved to be just that!.
